Cloudflare Announces NET Dollar Stablecoin for AI Agent Payments
Cloudflare has unveiled plans to launch NET Dollar, a U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin designed to facilitate payments for AI-powered agents. The stablecoin aims to support microtransactions in an emerging "agentic web" where autonomous software handles tasks like booking flights or ordering goods.
The MOVE signals a potential shift from ad-driven internet economics to pay-per-use models, according to CEO Matthew Prince. Cloudflare's entry comes as the stablecoin market nears $300 billion in valuation, dominated by incumbents like Tether's USDT and Circle's USDC.
While launch details remain undisclosed, the infrastructure company positions NET Dollar as a solution for instant, global transactions between AI systems. The announcement reflects growing corporate interest in blockchain-based payment rails for machine-to-machine commerce.
